Installing CESNAV on Windows 7 64-bit

Environment: VMware Workstation 6.5.3 64-bit running Windows 7 64-bit

Host: Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

CESNAV Version: 510CESNAV-05, April 2009, CPCalc 3.4

Step 1 - Installing CPCalc

1- Launch CESNAV installer. This will occur automatically when you insert the CESNAV CD.

2- Choose CPCALC

3- After successfully installing CPcalc, upon first run the Subscription Code must be entered. This can be found on the installation CD

4- The airport database must be updated. go to Help -> CPCalc Website -> Airport / Runway / Database update to launch your default browser and download the airport database.

Step 2 - Installing CLCalc

CLCalc requires .NET 1.1, which is a very old version. .NET 1.1 is not officially supported by Microsoft under Windows 7.

When attempting to install .NET 1.1, it will give this nasty warning, but work in any case:

Step 3 - Load Weight & Balance data from CLCALC

Upon delivery, there should have been delivered a separate CD with your Mustang's Serial number on it, labeled "Model 510 Citation Mustang CLCALC Database"

This CD contains only three files:

1) A text file containing your specific Mustang's Weight & Balance information

2) Autorun.inf

3) A little Cessna utility called dbInstaller30.

When dbInstaller30 is launched, it fails without any error message. All it is simply trying to do is copy the W&B text file from the CD to the appropriate directory.

To do this manually:

  • Using Windows Explorer, select the "510-0xxx (mm-dd-yy).txt" from your CD, where xxx is your serial number and the other digits are the date the file was created.
  • Right click on the file and select Copy.
  • Browse to "c:\program files (x86)\cessna\CESNAV\Cessna Loading Calculator V3" and paste the file into this directory.

Relaunch CLCalc, and it will find your W&B information. If you examine the text file, you'll see it is fairly easy to understand the information. While not advisable, it could easily be edited by any text editor, such as notepad.

Note that the user must have write access to this file. By default, users do not have write permissions to c:\program files under Vista and Windows 7.
